Florida Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis has drawn a line in the sand for Congress. He believes President Donald Trump should kill the Obamacare rule that gives lawmakers and their aide’s access to insurance on the small business marketplace.
Trump threatened to cut off funding for Obamacare subsidy payments through Twitter on Monday morning to continue to push Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare. The subsidy stems from the section of Obamacare that allows the leaders in Congress to use the employer contribution subsidy for obtaining their insurance.
Rep. Ron DeSantis said that it is just not right for these Congressional lawmakers to have run on repeal and replace but voted no recently and still get the subsidy option.
“I think the President would be absolutely within his rights to cancel the Obama rule that conferred this subsidy on Congress,” DeSantis said Monday on Fox News. DeSantis did not accept the subsidy himself and believed wholeheartedly that it is wrong and even unlawful.
“I decline the subsidy,” DeSantis said. “It’s not right, and I don’t take it because I don’t think it’s lawful.”
