Fox News continues to field all kinds of heat due to what seems to be statements that are derogatory against women. First Roger Ailes was fired amidst scandal then Bill O’Reilly was fired when it was revealed that $13 million had been paid to 5 women who levied sexual harassment charges against the popular host. Now Jesse Watters is taking a surprise vacation after a statement he made about Ivanka Trump in a recent show.
Watters was discussing the moment Ivanka Trump was booed during a Berlin Summit dedicated to women in the workplace on the Fox News show “The Five.” At one point, he said, “I don’t really get what’s going on here, but I really liked the way she was speaking into that microphone.”
It didn’t take long for there to be some massive social media backlash. Yashar Ail, from New York Magazine, was the first to point out what he saw as a crude innuendo. Many other people weighed in on what they perceived to be offensive to Ivanka and women in general. The “gaffe” came just days the announcement that “The Five” would be moving to the coveted 9 pm time slot, following Tucker Carlson, who took the slot Bill O’Reilly held for decades.
Watters has defended his statement on Buzzfeed saying, “During the break, we were commenting on Ivanka’s voice and how it was low and steady and resonates like a smooth jazz radio DJ. This was in no way a joke about anything else.”
Do you believe Watters? Should there be repercussions against him by Fox News? Or is everyone just hypersensitive in the wake of past indiscretions by the network? You can watch the statement by Watters, and the response from CNN below.
