The conspiracy theories into whether former President Obama was born in the U.S.A occupied a large amount of time during Obama’s first few months in office. Now, Fox News host Sean Hannity is liking that to the probe into theories that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election:
“This has now become, like, Russia-Trump conspiracy – Birther conspiracies, you know? Sort of truthers.”
One of President Trump’s lawyers agreed saying, “right” then called the investigation a “witch hunt” and “false narrative.”
The former President Barack Obama was said by conspiracy theorists to not be born in the United States, and his botched birth certificate was the reason. This was considered by many liberals to be rooted in racism. Then, businessman, Donald Trump charged forward stating there was evidence that Obama was born in Kenya and that his birth certificate was illegitimate. Trump later backed off towards the end of Obama’s last term.
Hannity’s statement shocked many people because he backed the claim that Obama wasn’t born here. During a radio show in 2011, Hannity said the following regarding Obama’s birth certificate:
“Why are all these people that just ask to see it, why are they crucified and beaten up and smeared and besmirched the way they are?”
Later in 2011, Hannity followed up with Trump to see how his (Trump’s) investigators were doing in Hawaii. Though the controversy is supposedly laid to rest, there are still numerous people who still believe he wasn’t born in the United States.
Hannity took on another conspiracy this year saying that DNC staffer Seth Rich was killed because he was connected to WikiLeaks. That statement caused him to lose several advertisers and commercials.
