On Monday it was reported that Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) was giving an interview to a radio station in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Friday when he said…
“Some female senators from the Northeast are responsible for the Senate’s failure to pass a bill. If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style.”
The Texan Congressman is referring that he would target these Senators if they were men like Aaron-Burr. Burr is noted for shooting and killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804.
Well, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va) was not pleased about the Congressman’s comments, considering one of the ‘GOP 3’ is the second Senator from West Virginia. During an interview, Manchin said, “I’d be okay to step outside with him.”
But Manchin didn’t stop there…
He stated that the GOP bill would destroy the people of the State of West Virginia and Farenthold on Monday said the fact that there are senators who “do not have the courage to do some of the things that every Republican in the Senate to do is just absolutely repugnant to me.”
First of all, saying you would shoot someone because you disagree is egregious. You would think that a GOP Congressman would use better words especially after the attack they suffered earlier this summer.
Second, this is 2017 and these three women Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) are from states known for their rugged outdoors. I got my money on them over a loud mouth Texan.
Thirdly, why do people always have to go violent went they disagree with others there is plenty you could disagree with on. Like, holding them accountable to their previous vote to repeal Obamacare. There are plenty of things to criticizes at least two of the Senators over but, shooting them isn’t one.
The rhetoric that came from this congressman must stop, and has no place in Washington.
Of course, this is coming from a Congressman from a state that recently had a Democrat and Republican state legislator get into a pushing match.
