Stevie Wonder just left his audience in shock after his recent comments on “Black Lives Matter” and “gun violence.”
During a North Minneapolis Peace Conference, Wonder stated that it’s impossible to say Black lives matter and then kill each other. According to Billboard magazine, Wonder stated:
“It is in your hands to do it. It is in your hands to stop all the killing and all the shooting wherever you might be. Because you cannot say, ‘Black lives matter,’ and then kill yourselves.”
Wonder continued his heartfelt sentiment saying:
“Because you know we’ve mattered long before it was said, but the way we show that we matter, the way that we show all the various people of color matter is by loving each other and doing something about it. Not just talking about it, not just waiting to see the media and press come when there’s a horrible thing.”
Wonder has changed his approach to “gun violence” from pushing it in concerts to pushing it to the people. According to a Breitbart report in August of 2015, Wonder would hold concerts where he would give a “top-down argument” by encouraging fans to support government involvement in regulations. Now two years later, Wonder is using a “bottom-up” approach by asking people to guard their passions and behaviors.
Wonder’s hope is that this new method will bring a change to current black-on-black violence. Do you think this will change? Let us know in the comments below!
