On Wednesday morning Secretary of State Tillerson blasted ‘erroneous’ reports and stated that he never considered leaving his post. He continually gave his support for the President and his duties at the State Department. Secretary Tillerson also said he is not going to “deal with petty nonsense and will not be part of the effort to divide the administration.”
On Wednesday morning it was being reported by NBC News that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson referred to President Donald Trump as “a moron” after a July 20th meeting at the Pentagon. NBC cites multiple senior administration officials.
Tillerson apparently made the comment in front of members of Trump’s national security team and Cabinet members. It is also revealed in this report that Tillerson was on the verge of resigning in late July, but was convinced to stay by other cabinet members, at least until the end of the year. He was supposedly given a “pep talk” by Vice President Mike Pence. Pence counseled Tillerson on ways to ease tensions with Trump.
NBC reported: “The tensions came to a head around the time President Donald Trump delivered a politicized speech in late July to the Boy Scouts of America, an organization Tillerson once led, the officials said. Just days earlier, Tillerson had openly disparaged the president, referring to him as a “moron,” after a July 20 meeting at the Pentagon with members of Trump’s national security team and Cabinet officials, according to three officials familiar with the incident.”
The White House was not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC and declined to comment on the record to NBC News for the story. Tillerson’s top State Department spokesman, R.C. Hammond, stated that the secretary did not consider quitting in July. He also said that Tillerson did not call the president a “moron.”
