What the Heck Is Going On! Media Cries Foul, White House Slams Leaks, and FBI Stays Quite

On Friday I spent a good amount of time trying to give a bipartisan honest look at the latest headline about Priebus contacting the FBI about the Flynn leaks. I started at CNN and to be honest, in terms of a timeline, it was poorly written. So next I went to FOX news and their story was a fluff piece. So off to the Associated Press who lays out a very nice timeline. So I’m going to lay out the facts and leave the rest to you.

CNN initially reported that the White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus asked the FBI to speak against the claims about the Trump Administration contacting Russian officials. CNN writes:

The discussions between the White House and the bureau began with FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus on the sidelines of a separate White House meeting the day after the stories were published, according to a US law enforcement official.

Fox News claims that it learned that after an intelligence meeting at the White House Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe initiated contact with Priebus to tell him that the NY Times article was not accurate. This was not updated or mentioned in the CNN article. The Associated Press stated that after Priebus was told by FBI the media story wasn’t true, Priebus contacted the FBI asking “to inform journalists of the same point that they were making to us.” The response to the White House from the FBI was that they (the FBI) do not get involved in what the press writes and states and would not issue a statement.

CNN reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee is investigating and that they learn more and more every day. No Senator has revealed any information that has come from the hearing with Comey however, Democrats said they will go where ever the evidence takes them.

The White House is claiming that the CNN story is false stating that Priebus never initially contacted the FBI they contacted him. Then this morning President Trump took to twitter.

What we do know is that under Obama the FBI was already investigating Russian and if the Trump campaign had any contact with Russia. To date, the FBI has not charged anyone or made any comment on any other investigation. To me, this looks like another case of new administration folly. The FBI gave Priebus a heads up type wink nod “dude your good”, and Priebus tried to use it use as a press release against the media. At this point, the FBI should just turn everything over to congress and end this whatever the result as quickly as possible. If you would like to read the dispatches yourself they are linked below.
