WikiLeaks just dropped a bomb on the CIA. Today they released “vault 7” leaks which contain about 8,761 documents on the capabilities of the CIA hacking ability. The pages that were released is much larger than the Snowden files.
“‘Year Zero’ introduces the scope and direction of the CIA’s global covert hacking program, its malware arsenal and dozens of “zero day” weaponized exploits against a wide range of U.S. and European company products, include Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones.”
WikiLeaks stated that they will not release the actual cyber weapons or “armed software”.
One reason the group said they released the information is that many of the viruses, Trojans, and malware had grown so large that they lost control of them. As a result, bots and viruses planted themselves everywhere which may allow the CIA access to your device if they activate it.
WikiLeaks claims that the CIA hacked iPhones, Microsoft Windows and “worked with MI5 to turn Samsung TVs into microphones as part of a global hacking program.”
The program was called “Weeping Angel” it was developed by the CIA that integrates into the smart TV turning the speaker on the TV into a microphone. Another tool the CIA used was called “Fake Off” which operates the TV while it is off records conversations in the room and then sends them to a CIA server.
In the related files, WikiLeaks also claims that the CIA planned to hack into vehicle systems that are now connected to the internet.
The information was released on Tuesday and since it is so large more information will come as the week moves on. One particular interesting program that the CIA developed was a type of malware that disguised them as other countries. Now, I’m not going to take that any further, I’ll let someone else do that. But buckle up folks more is to follow.
