AOC sheds a tear as she promises to eliminate ICE

New York Democrat and Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke to a rally gathered at the steps of the capitol in support of illegal immigrants and told them that not only is President Donald Trump lying to them, but that ICE is violating their basic rights.

“This is one of the most urgent moral issues and crisis that we have in America right now,” Ocasio-Cortez said to her audience. “This is not a political issue, children dying in detention centers should not be a partisan concern. It should be a universal concern for every American in the united states.

The congresswoman then reminded her audience about the State of the Union that took place near where the rally was being held, earlier in the week and said that while President Donald Trump claims to like legal immigration, that is a lie.

“The President does not like any form of immigration. He has been cutting down and imposing restrictions on legal forms, on the diversity visa lottery on family unification and so on,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She then stated that the president is looking to end TPS and DACA programs and protections for Dreamers, but without any justification for her remarks.

“And now he is asking for five billion dollars to continue to militarize and weaponize a force that has zero accountability rather whose director whose secretary has no idea when she goes in front of a hearing how many children are dying in her own care under her own watch and they have the audacity to ask for more money to fund that, I don’t think so, I don’t think so,” said Ocasio-Cortez passionately.

“Not only will we not agree to fund [ICE], but we are here to say that an agency like ICE, which repeatedly and systematically violates human rights, does not deserve a dime,” she continued. “They do not deserve a dime.”

“Until they can prove that they are honoring human rights, until they can make a good-faith effort to expand and embrace immigrants, the immigrants in this nation that have always been a part, and have always been a core element of American democracy, until they can prove good faith to an American ideal they do not deserve any resources for their radical agenda,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

“We have to have respect for children, respect for families respect for human rights and respect for human mobility.

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were made alongside representatives from several immigrant rights groups as well as Democratic Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar at an event organized by progressive organization MoveOn.
