MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, whose primetime show is one of the most loved of the network, brought in the worst weekly ratings of the year last week, according to The Daily Caller.
The stand out primetime host averaged 2,324,000 viewers, with an average audience of 337,000 in the 25-54 age demographic, according to the Daily Caller. Both of those statistics are a yearly low for the host, according to Nielsen Media Research.
After nearly two years of reporting on the investigation by Robert Mueller into President Donald Trump, Maddow saw a significant slump in viewers following the widely disappointing report from the Special Counsel which many Democrats seemed to have hoped would incriminating.
Maddow, who has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump from the start, was a propionate of the theory that President Donald Trump won the election, thanks to collusion from Russia, not through his own merit as a candidate.
The theory of conspiracy and election fraud has been a mainstay on Maddow’s evening program for the past two years, and Maddow’s lack of substantive evidence to back up her years of theories seems to have done serious damage to her ratings, according to The Daily Caller.
“‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ on MSNBC delivered monster ratings for the network, cementing the cable host as the left-wing foil to Fox News’ Sean Hannity. Maddow consistently finished 1st or 2nd in overall cable news ratings over the past year, sometimes garnering more than 3 million viewers,” the Daily Caller reported.
However, according to The Daily Beast, Maddow’s show lost half a million viewers in a single week after the Mueller report was delivered to Capitol Hill.
“Maddow, who has consistently vied for the first or second top-rated cable news program, was sixth on Monday evening, down almost 500,000 total viewers from the previous Monday, as was MSNBC’s second top-rated program in primetime, ‘The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell,’” The Daily Beast reported.
Conversely, Fox News’ “The Sean Hannity Show” has had a ratings boom, with his numbers seeing almost double what Maddow’s show brought in on Monday, according to the Daily Caller. Hannity’s show had almost 4 million viewers, while Maddow’s brought in 2.5 million.
