Former National Security Advisor John Bolton is slated to testify at President Donald Trump’s impeachment inquiry next week, as Democrats look for someone to give them the necessary leverage to impeach the president, according to The DailyMail.
Bolton is slated to testify on Thursday, according to the DailyMail. The former national security advisor is reportedly frustrated with the president and his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani and their foreign policy choices, calling Giuliani “a hand grenade who’s going to blow everyone up.”
Along with Bolton, National Security Council legal adviser John Eisenberg and his deputy Michael Ellis, however, it is as yet unclear whether Bolton’s testimony was voluntary or if he was issued a subpoena.
There is also still the possibility that the White House will attempt to block Bolton’s testimony, along with Eisenberg’s and Ellis’ due to executive privilege.
“Bolton could be a marque witness for Democrats and is in a strong position to testify as to whether there were any ‘quid pro quos’ for the Ukraine to receive nearly $400 million in American military aid,” the DailyMail reported.
“Meanwhile, Bolton’s attorneys have been speaking to the staff on the three committees handling the closed-door impeachment testimony to come up with an agreement for the former national security adviser to talk.”
“Obviously he has very relevant information and we want him to testify,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” of Bolton.
While Bolton was only recently left the Trump administration, according to a report in The Spectator, some Washington insiders now believe that former National Security Advisor John Bolton could be the source of information behind the whistleblower’s complaint against President Donald Trump.
“One veteran political consultant in Washington tells Cockburn that Trump is afraid Bolton is the mastermind behind all the damaging leaks on his secret dealings with the Ukrainians; the whistleblower’s Deep Throat, if you will,” the Spectator reported. “This, he believes, is why Trump’s cheerleader in the Senate, Lindsay Graham, keeps asking who was feeding the CIA whistleblower who came forward with details of a call between Trump and the Ukrainian president (in which Trump asked for dirt on the Democratic frontrunner, Joe Biden).
“He went on: ‘Watch Bolton’s role in all this. If he is in mix then Trump has real problems. I hear that Trump was obsessed with Bolton when he [Trump] was in New York. When Trump says the real whistleblower is a spy and should be treated as such, he’s threatening Bolton. Bolton would not play his game in Korea, Iran, Russia or Ukraine. This is Trump’s Achilles heel.’”
