This has to be at the top of the promises made by candidates…it’s a little more than the “chicken in every pot” promise made during the Depression. Former Vice President Joe Biden made a bold promise on Tuesday, he said that he would “cure cancer” if he is elected president in 2020.
This vow was made at a campaign event in Ottumwa, Iowa. Biden expressed the difficulty one faces with a “loss” of a family member. He talked about how others attempt to comfort you saying, “‘I know how you feel'” when in reality they have “no idea how I feel.” Biden was almost certainly making a reference to the loss of his son Beau Biden, who died in 2015 from brain cancer.
“That’s why I’ve worked so hard in my career to make sure that… I promise you if I’m elected president, you’re going to see the single most important thing that changes America, we’re gonna cure cancer,” Biden declared.
As you can imagine, Biden’s remarks were met with rousing applause from the audience. Who wouldn’t get excited about a presidential promise to eradicate such a threatening disease?
In 2016, Biden took the lead in the “Cancer Moonshot” program during the Obama administration. This endeavor focused on a renewed effort to find a cure for cancer. The former Vice President also launched the Biden Cancer Initiative after leaving office.
The Democratic frontrunner in the 2020 race for the White House took some shots at President Trump while campaigning in Iowa. Biden called Trump an “existential threat” to the country.
So what do you think about Biden’s promise to “cure cancer” in America? Do you think this was over the top? How do you think the other candidates are going to react to Biden’s remarks? We look forward to seeing your comments in the section just below this article.
