The audience of ABC’s “The View” suffered a collective cringe on Thursday when the group covered the issue of the impeachment hearing into President Donald Trump.
According to Decider, hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Abby Huntsman, and Sonny Hostin all weighed in on how both sides were fairing in the hotly contested debate as to whether Trump has committed an impeachable offense.
“… The View devoted the bulk of Hot Topics to Wednesday’s impeachment hearings, during which Republicans like Rep. Jim Jordan repeatedly questioned the credibility of Taylor and Kent,” Decider reported.
Conservative host Abby Huntsman voiced her surprise and even disappointment in the Republicans over their offensive strategy saying that having “a strong foreign policy” used to be “a big piece of the heart of the Republican party,” but clearly that’s no longer the case. “I don’t understand what is happening right now,” she said, slamming her hand on the table. “These Republicans that are up there — you don’t have to be for actually impeaching the president, but at least admit that what he did was wrong!”
Whoopi Goldberg agreed with Huntsman and took it further, saying that the congressmen’s plan of attacking two witnesses, Bill Taylor and George Kent as not being “real Republicans” was not an acceptable strategy.
“Who are you representing? You’re not representing Republicans, because real Republicans say that’s not okay … These newfangled people who maybe ate some Republicans and took their faces off — I don’t know who those folks are.”
“Hostin then said that she thinks it’s ‘insane’ that Republicans are dismissing Wednesday’s testimony as ‘hearsay’ when that hasn’t mattered to them in the past,” Decider reported.
“Well, Linda Tripp — remember, Clinton was impeached because of Linda Tripp’s testimony, which was complete hearsay!” Hostin said. “She was on a phone call, which was taped.”
That was when Behar chimed in saying, “Well, she was not under the desk with Monica. Let’s put it that way,” said Behar. “So that’s hearsay.”
Behar’s comments caused “The View” audience to erupt into laughter.
Goldberg interjected in hopes of changing the topic, as the laughter continued:
“We try to be supportive of women on this show,” she said, but let it trail off.
