Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) prepared a speech for the Senate where he calls for his fellow lawmakers to move past the Russia investigation and special counsel Robert Mueller’s report which has caused what McConnell called a “partisan paralysis,” The DailyMail reported.
“This investigation went on for two years. It’s finally over. Many Americans were waiting to see how their elected officials would respond,” McConnell said.
“With an exhaustive investigation complete, would the country finally unify to confront the real challenges before us? Would we finally be able to move on from partisan paralysis and breathless conspiracy theorizing?” he asked.
“Or would we remain consumed by unhinged partisanship, and keep dividing ourselves to the point that Putin and his agents need only stand on the sidelines and watch as their job is done for them? Regrettably, I think the answer is pretty obvious,” he said.
“How we can finally end this Groundhog Day spectacle? Stop endlessly re-litigating a two and a half-year-old election result and move forward for the American people,” said McConnell.
However, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Ca) had a very different opinion, saying that the case is “not closed.”
“That’s just not a fact. The case is not closed,” she said at Cornell University’s Institute of Politics and Global Affairs in New York City Tuesday. The speaker went on to say that she believed Congress “would be delinquent” if it aborted its investigation.
While Mueller has not publicly spoken since he completed his 448-page report, President Donald Trump tweeted about the report, sharing his disdain with the way in which it was conducted.
“After spending more than $35,000,000 over a two year period, interviewing 500 people, using 18 Trump Hating Angry Democrats & 49 FBI Agents – all culminating in a more than 400-page Report showing NO COLLUSION – why would the Democrats in Congress now need Robert Mueller to testify.”
“Are they looking for a redo because they hated seeing the strong NO COLLUSION conclusion? There was no crime, except on the other side (incredibly not covered in the Report), and NO OBSTRUCTION. Bob Mueller should not testify. No redos for the Dems!”
