Mourning Joe: MSNBC host spreads rumor that Trump has “pre-dementia”

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” added to the political confusion on the feud between President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when host Joe Scarborough reported that his friends have been worried about the president’s “mental decline” and claim he has “pre-dementia,” according to The DailyMail.

Scarborough, who has known both figures for decades, thanks to his time as a House Representative and working at the network, weighed in on both Pelosi and Trump accusing one another of a lack of mental acuity:

“We know what it’s actually about. The president of course during the campaign, we’ve said it, people close to him told us that they feared he was in mental decline,” Scarborough said. “People very close to him told us that they feared he was in pre-dementia, that he had changed.”

“You watched Donald Trump in the late 1980s, you watch him even in the 90s, you watch him now, he is completely changed,” said Scarborough, who regularly interviewed Trump during the campaign.

“I’ve known Nancy Pelosi and been working with her since 1994 … I can tell you Nancy Pelosi is tougher today than she was 25 years ago,” said Scarborough, a former Republican congressman.

Scarborough’s comments are in stark contrast to sentiments he shared just weeks ago when he admitted that the president is more vibrant than the majority of the frontrunners of the Democratic presidential hopefuls.

Trump called himself a “young, vibrant man” in April after a reporter asked him how old was too old to be president. “I just feel like a young man. I’m so young,” he said. “I can’t believe it. I’m the youngest person. I am a young, vibrant man.”

According to Scarborough, watching the president address a crowd in Louisiana on Tuesday makes him agree with the assessment:

“A couple of weeks ago, when Donald Trump said, ‘I’m young, I’ve got more vigor than them,’” started Scarborough. “Look at a clip like that, and he does. He just does. Let’s be blunt about Donald Trump. That guy can do on a campaign stage what nobody else can do.

“He can engage the audience. He can engage viewers, despite the hateful rhetoric, despite everything else. You can see that guy is gearing up for 2020. Yes, Democrats, he is going to be hard to beat, because he does look like he is about 20 years younger than a lot of Democratic candidates.”
