House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came out in defense of the highly criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar, stating that the Muslim Semolina-American is not anti-Semitic, in Pelosi’s opinion.
“I don’t think that the congresswoman is anti-Semitic. I wouldn’t even put those in the same category,” Pelosi said during an interview with CNN in Dublin, Ireland.
The house speaker also denied that the Democratic party as a group has any anti-Semitism tendencies.
She then spoke about the Democratic Party as a whole, denying anti-Semitism plays any role in the party.
“We have no taint of that in the Democratic Party,” she said in the interview.
“Just because they want to accuse somebody of that doesn’t mean that we take that bait.” she added.
Omar, who is one of the first Muslim Congress members in the history of the United States has been in the headlines for recent controversial comments.
Omar has repeatedly voiced her displeasure with the support of Israel and it’s occupation of what she considers to be Palestinian land.
“I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” Omar said according to Fox News.
“I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA, of fossil fuel industries, or big pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying movement that is influencing policy.”
President Donald Trump took an unrepentant stance on his opinion of Rep. Ilhan Omar, when asked about it during a visit to her home state.
“Look, she’s been very disrespectful to this country. She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She is somebody that doesn’t really understand life. Real life,” Trump told the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis where he stayed for only a few hours for meetings.
The president doubled down on his comments about Omar, questioning her loyalty to this country.
“It’s unfortunate,” the president said. “She’s got a way about her that’s very, very bad, I think, for our country. I think she’s extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful to our country.”
