Rashida Tlaib “a despicable human” for wanting to jail administration officials, says Trump

Trump and Tliab

President Trump was busy with a tweet on Sunday calling Rep. Rashida Tlaib “despicable” after she disclosed that House Democrats have considered jailing members of the White House administration who defy subpoenas to testify before Congress in the impeachment inquiry.

“A despicable human being!,” the president wrote in a post in which he retweeted Dan Scavino, the White House director of social media.

Scavino linked to a story on The Hill about Tlaib and remarked “Sounds about right. COUP!”

Tlaib is a first-term House member from Michigan, she told Deadline Detroit that the Democratic caucus has considered using their congressional power of inherent contempt to take Trump’s allies into custody if they do not comply with a subpoena.

She did admit that using the contempt action would be “uncharted territory.”

“There have been actual serious conversations about what the logistics would look like . . . if we did have to force someone through a court order to come before the Congressional committee. This is pretty uncharted territory for many of us and even for Congress,” she said in the interview that was reported in The Hill.

The White House sent a letter to House Democrats last week in which they were defiant, describing the impeachment inquiry as an attempt to overturn the 2016 election and vowing not to cooperate.

“Never before in our history has the House of Representatives — under the control of either political party — taken the American people down the dangerous path you seem determined to pursue,” White House counsel Pat Cipollone wrote.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched the inquiry into Trump after a whistleblower’s complaint revealed the president allegedly pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

What do you think and Tliab and her fellow Democrats idea to jail administration officials who do not respond to a subpoena? We look forward to seeing your comments.
