First Lady Melania Trump was hospitalized Monday at Walter Reed in order to receive treatment for a kidney condition. While that might seem like a situation that would receive bipartisan support and well wishes, unfortunately, that’s not what happened.
Thankfully, the First Lady came through the procedure and is on the mend. Her office released this statement:
“This morning, First Lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful and there were no complications. Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.”
What might have seemed like an unfortunate, but an essentially expected outcome for a woman in her 40’s was seen as a golden opportunity for enemies of the First Couple to take jabs at them. Here are a few of the comments in response to news of the First Lady’s successful procedure:
“First Lady Melania Trump undergoes kidney surgery, still has huge orange pain in her a**”
“I’m sure all the stress of being married to Donald Trump and his repeated affairs have not helped Melania Trump’s Health!”
One went so far as to blame the President for the kidney issue:
“Issues with the kidney or bladder indicates internal anger and being ‘Pissed off.’ I Can’t imagine what Melania is angry about …”
Another attacked President Trump for not staying at the hospital during her stay there:
“Melania Trump had kidney surgery today. Her husband didn’t join her at the hospital. Think about that. Think about if you’d been on the operating table and your spouse chose not to be there for you.”
Still, another encouraged her to leave the President:
“Hope you feel better @FLOTUS.
Get some rest, heal up and then take your kid and run as far as you can.”
And last but not least, was a reminder about a hot-button issue because even though the Trump’s are a very wealthy family, the FLOTUS is currently under government care as part of her position in the government:
“I hope that Senator Harry Reed and First Lady Melania Trump are enjoying their Government provided, tax-payer-funded healthcare so much today that they join the majority of Americans who would like it to be available to all Americans.”
