As the Russia investigation well into it’s second year, those close to the Trump campaign are bracing for questioning by the special investigator. As a former political advisor to then-candidate Trump, Roger Stone has made it clear that he would not be testifying against the President.
During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Stone said that while he doesn’t believe there has been any proof of the collision that the special investigator is looking for, he is still “mindful of any prosecutor’s ability to squeeze underlings to get them to compose testimony against a bigger fish. I have not been contacted by the special counsel’s office.”
“I made it abundantly clear that there is no circumstances under which I would testify against the president. I would not rule out cooperating if they think I can be helpful in some area, but beyond that, I have not spoken to them.”
Stone’s has been questioned about his actions on the part of the Trump campaign, especially as concerns an exchange he engaged in where he admittedly reviewed the election model sent by Guccifer 2.0. Stone was clear, however, that he dismissed it immediately and “passed it on to no one in the Trump campaign,”
“As I testified before the House Intelligence Committee under oath, my 24-word exchange with someone on Twitter claiming to be Guccifer 2.0 is benign based on its content context and timing. This exchange is entirely public and provides no evidence of collaboration or collusion with Guccifer 2.0 or anyone else in the alleged hacking of the DNC emails, as well as taking place many weeks after the events described in today’s indictment.”
Stone also made it clear in his interview with Cooper that he doesn’t believe there is adequate evidence against the President to warrant a collusion charge.
“While Mr. Mueller has certainly provided evidence of Russian meddling it has largely been “ham-handed” ineffective, and not had much impact on the results, in my opinion. He has yet to prove actual Russian collusion between the Trump campaign, Trump associates trump family members and the Russian state. We’ve talked about that before, I know of no evidence of it, I don’t think Mr. Mueller has proven that case yet.”
