South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham appeared on CBS’ “Sunday Morning,” where he gave a scathing rebuke of Democrats who are unwilling to budge on the border wall, in order to pass a budget.
“We’re having to negotiate with people who want to abolish ICE, not support ICE,” Graham said Sunday.
“We’re having to negotiate with people who see border patrol agents gassing children, rather than defending our borders as professional law enforcement officers. And we’re negotiating with people who will accuse all of us who support a wall as part of border security as racists.”
Graham voiced his disgust with Democrats who consider border patrol agents and other law enforcement to be the problem instead of the solution.
When questioned by the host about those individuals paychecks, and how they would continue to support themselves during the government shutdown, Graham said that government workers were “being held hostage” by Democrats who don’t want the wall.
“They’re being held hostage by people who say that you need one dollar to secure the border.”
“So you don’t want to open up the government and then continue talking?” Graham was asked.
“I do want to open up the government,” the Senator replied.
“But the goal is not to open up the government, the goal is to fix a broken immigration system, to bring reality to this table, that ICE is not the problem, it’s the solution.”
“The goal is to fix a damaged, broken immigration system, and to implement policies that Democrats have voted for in the past…”
Graham continued: “We’re not going to give into this radical left, ever, until we can find a rational way forward, where we have a border wall as part of our border security plan we’re going nowhere.
“Wall plus DACA plus TPS makes sense, but you’ll never convince me that we don’t need a wall.”
