Tucker Carlson has increased the tension in his feud with Ilhan Omar, just a day after he accused the Somali-born congresswoman of having “undisguised contempt for the United States.”
Carlson’s comments on Tuesday caused Omar to describe him as “racist fool,” but instead of backing off, the Fox News host doubled down on his criticism of the politician during Wednesday night’s opening of his Tucker Carlson Tonight program.
In a heated opening monologue, the 50-year-old host claimed the US had “rescued” Omar from “the single worst place on earth.” only for her to act ungratefully.
“How did Omar respond to the remarkable gift we gave her? She scolded us and called us names. She showered us with contempt. It’s infuriating,” Carlson said on the program.
Omar was born in Somalia and came to the U.S. as a refugee with her father when she was 10 years old.
Carlson addressed Omar’s claim that he was “racist” – something she wrote on Twitter following his initial criticism of her on Tuesday night.
“lhan Omar and her allies in congress immediately demanded that this show be pulled off the air. They didn’t rebut our points, or even acknowledge them. They just tried to silence us. That’s how they operate. And of course they called us racist,” Carlson charged.
He argued against Omar’s claim, saying that his program consistently promotes “colorblind equality.”
“Omar and her friends already know that,” the Fox host said and then added: “Nothing they say on the subject is sincere. It’s all a hustle, designed to get them what they want.
“Omar has made a career of denouncing anyone and anything in her way as racist. That would include virtually all of her political and personal opponents, and even inanimate objects, like the proposed border wall, the United States Congress and the entire state of North Dakota.”
“Ilhan Omar is living proof that the way we practice immigration has become dangerous to this country. She has undisguised contempt for the United States and for its people,” Carlson said on his Fox News program Tuesday night.
“She’s a living fire alarm, a warning to the rest of us that we better change our immigration system immediately, or else,” he warned.
